Here are some photos we compiled to show a little what David does with a horse. These pictures show a variety of horses in a variety of situations. David will change what he is doing depending on what his horse needs him to do.
David loves when his clients send him a horse for 30 or 60 days because then he can work with a horse everyday and ride it until it feels good. Sometimes this means getting on it and riding it for 20 minutes and sometimes this means taking it for a 10 mile trip. He really makes a horse nice after he works with it consistently in a controlled environment for a long period of time.
These are some pictures with our niece and nephew on our horses. They love riding our horses and it really shows us how in tune our horses are with the rider when you have a little kid directing them.
This is Taggart. He is our new 4 year old roan and has about 30 days on him so far. He is coming along really well.
This is an Arab that David trained for a month. He is getting the horse good about coming up to the block (or log, or tailgate of a truck) so that it is easy to get on her. Photo taken by Patricia Moerman.
David has done a cowboy skills clinic for little kids where he teaches them to rope and talks a little bit about what it means to be a cowboy.
David likes to use a saddle horse to work with an unbroke horse. That way he doesn't have to pull as hard from the ground and it makes the horse good about having another horse and rider near him.
For the month of September, David had anywhere from 7-9 colts that he was preparing for a sale. The number went down because he sold 2 of them early. They were a colorful bunch, from roans to a palomino to a couple of greys as well. There were 6 three year olds at the beginning, but two of those were the ones that sold early. We took the colts to a sale on October 1st down in Denver. David did a great job at showing the horses where they were, which was quite impressive because he put a great start on them.
This is at the roping in Carbondale, CO. David got on 3 teams- each team had 3 different cowboys who are roping. They rope 4 different steers and then the top 5 teams out of 11 roped a cow. David ended up placing in the first place team and the second place team. He did a fine job and had a lot of fun too.
Tex & Chris- These are for you.
